Blu-ray Disc Player w/ Full HD 1080P Output via HDMI, DVD 1080p Up-conversion.
I have had this player for about a month and gave it 4-stars on the assumption that the USB-2 port can be used to update the player. It would have received 5-stars accept that it is a replacement unit. The first unit was returned because of intermittent HDMI signal loss when playing regular DVDs.This player is exactly what I wanted - something simple, inexpensive, updateable, and a good match with my LG TV. The picture quality is very good including the up-scaling.When I read the Buyer Reviews for other Blu-Ray DVD players, I noticed that there was a direct correlation between added features and player unreliability. It is as though the manufactures have not yet worked out all the bugs and compatibility issues involving the added internet features. My recommendation at this time is that people buy a Blu-Ray player which only has the internet functions needed at this time. After all, you may not know what internet features will be available and what features you will want 5 years from know.
I wanted a quality Blu-ray player without any bells or whistles. This basic LG model performs as advertised. Easy to install and easy to operate. Bargain price. It's hooked up to an LG 60" plasma and the combination produces excellent quality videos.
It's a good entry level blu-ray player, but sometimes it tends to freeze up, forcing you to unplug it. Not having internet capability is a peeve now that every title offers BD live and connectivity of some sort. Installing updates is a hassle too because you have to transfer files via flash drive or burned CD. The picture quality is great and the sound is impressive, although I am not running a surround system out of it. I just have a stereo hooked up to add some bass and depth to the otherwise bland tv speakers.
Third unit and still same issue!Unit played fine for a month then started locking up mid movie - blueray or DVD.Warranty only 3 mo full then 12 mo parts - 69 bucks for their repair center to work on unit. Sony and other mfg full year on parts AND labor!customer service at LG not helpful, took threats to go the attorney gen and AMAZON to compel them to honor the warranty.3rd unit and same problems exist! On its way back for another "repair" only 4 months old! maybe 4th time is the charmI highly do not recemmend this unit.Check reviews of those that have had the unit for a while to get the real issues...Not a value in the long run!Sony may not have as many whistles and bells but works consistently and does offer a real warranty if you have issues
We bought this as a lightening deal before Christmas. I think the price and value are worth the $100 spent. We'll see how it holds up over the long run. I would say it generate a lot of heat and we keep it inside a cabinet door to our entertainment center. We have to leave the door open while playing movies to ensure we don't over heat the player.
