My wife & I treated ourselves to this camera as gift to each other. We are novices but read other reviews and checked other sites and we are happy with our choice. Plus with DVD we were able to get started and shoot nice pictures right away. I feel the assistance you get with the menu and help screens make it such that you can find most of your answers right away on the camera. One thing to consider is to purchase the 2 lens kit as immediately it became apparent to us we needed the 200mm lens. We could have saved a few dollars by buying the kit with both lenses and the DVDs come with it as well.
I purchased this camera to replace my old d40. It was not a good replacement. The positives are that it is small, portable and light for a DSLR. It takes ok pictures in good lighting. But that's about it. Now for the negatives...The Guide Mode, which seems like it would be helpful, isn't really. It is hard to use and much easier to shoot in manual or any other mode. The LCD screen is bad and images looks really coarse. The big reason I don't like this camera is that it doesn't take great pictures. It's hard to get a good picture in low light and it is really noisy when you shoot above 800 ISO. I returned my d3000. You are better off with a d40 for less money, or a d5000 (which is what I purchased) for slightly more money.
I love this camera!! I'm somewhat a novice, but am learning and this makes it easy for beginners, plus has lots of features for more advanced users, so I can grow into it.
I love this Camera! I had the D40 before and I am much happier with the D3000. It takes great pictures and is very easy to use.
I bought this camera during Christmas for my wife. She wanted a camera to get into photography as a hobby. So far she has absolutely loved this camera. It has been easy to operate and takes great pictures. There is also something about holding this style of camera in your hands that makes one feel hip and cool. Buy it, you'll enjoy it!
